Recommended Home Schooling Guidelines
Getting Started
When you start your first day of lessons, do not feel like you have to complete every subject if it is taking a long time. You might even only finish 2 or 3 subjects on the first day. If this happens, on the second day add another subject; on the third day add another subject; and so on, until you are finally able to teach every subject in a day.
If you have more than one child that you are home schooling, take the first 2 or 3 days to get your oldest child settled into a routine. Then do the same with the second-oldest, the third-oldest and so on.
It is important to establish a routine and stick to it. Children, no matter what they say, prefer a routine and preform better with one. This does not mean that you cannot be flexible and change things up for emergencies or special days.
Your first year will be the hardest, having to adjust to the home school process. The second year will be much easier. After that, home schooling will become second nature to your and your children. You will be more familiar with the available books, and you will know which ones are best suited to you and your children. You will have learned how to manage your time so that you are able to balance teaching with household duties and extra activities for your children.
